The girls’ basketball team congratulated its two senior players tonight, Jan. 26. Varsity seniors Bailey Wulle and Sarah Shelley were brought down the court in the ceremonial Senior Night event by their families.
“I had mixed emotions on senior night,” Shelley said. “Yes, it was sad, but it was also very exciting because it means I’m one step closer to moving on to bigger and better things at the next level.”
Shelley said she appreciated the opportunity to be recognized next to her parents, as they’ve been a positive influence throughout her athletic career.
“They have always been my support system, coming to every game and always cheering me on,” Shelley said.
Following the honors, the team faced off against Franklin Central. The Lady Orioles took an early lead, outscoring the Flashers 17-9 in the first quarter and leading 27-25 at the half. But the second half belonged to Franklin Central. The Orioles, struggling to score, couldn’t keep pace. They fell by a final score of 57-40.
Wulle tallied five points, two rebounds and two assists. Shelley’s tough defense resulted in two steals. Avon’s high-scorer on the night was junior Ariahna Rodgers, who scored 19 points and collected six rebounds. Junior Katrina Hopkins also added six points and 11 rebounds.
