Avon High School hosted District ISSMA Solo and Ensemble on Saturday, Feb. 6. Students could participate alone or in a group, in the categories of winds, percussion, or strings, with an optional piano accompanist. Each participant performed in front of a certified music judge and was given a medal rating.
Students prepared months in advance for the competition. The event was designed to give feedback to players in an intimate setting in order to help improve the players’ skills. Those who receive a gold medal at a Group 1 rating, or the hardest level of difficulty music, are given the opportunity to continue on and compete at the state level.
Many Avon High School band and orchestra students participated in the ISSMA event along with students from neighboring schools within the district.
