DECA Partners With Hendricks County Senior Services for Spring ‘Senior Prom’

by Holly Edwards

DECA will host a “Senior Prom” at HCSS (Hendricks County Senior Services) in Danville on Thursday, March 8.

The event was planned entirely by DECA members, with multiple students volunteering. DECA Chapter Advisor Adam Clark said the club had been looking for a spring service event for some time.

“DECA is an aspiring leaders club that focuses on many things like leadership, business skill development, networking, career exploration, etc.,” Clark said. “It is a club that focuses on competition but also has a strong service component.”

That commitment to service led DECA to organize the Senior Prom, bringing together members to take on key roles in planning and execution.

“We opened up volunteer options to our full DECA chapter and have had a very strong response,” Clark said. “Our committees consist of decorations and setup, guest assistance and check-in, food and beverage, dance teachers, entertainment and activities, photos and memory making, and tear down.”

To make the event accessible for senior citizens, Clark said that DECA will provide a variety of activities.

“You can expect lots of fun, there will be decades trivia, name that tune, awards like prom queen, photo memories, food and drink, and of course dancing,” Clark said. “We do hope that this becomes an annual tradition, we think it will be a blast and can’t wait.”
