Robotics Team Has Strong Showing at State Competition

The Roborioles participated in the state robotics competition on March 8 at the University of Indianapolis. Team 15455, led by team captain senior Krish Patel, came in second place. Team 14954 came in third place for the Inspire Award.

“Both of these are huge, we’ve never done this well before,” said Patel.

After going through interviews with judges and inspections of robots, the club and its teams participated in qualifier matches against other teams. Teams were then ranked based on their performance, these rankings were used to form alliances between teams.

“First place chooses a team, they chose third, and I chose seventh,” said Patel.

Alliances then competed against each other until they made it to the finals, where the winning team was able to go on to the world competition. Various awards are also given out to teams, such as the aforementioned Inspire Award.

“We had a team who won the Inspire Award in third place, and whoever gets first also gets to go to Worlds,” said Patel.

Since the competition, Team 14954 have been accepted for a premier event taking place out of state during the summer, as the club itself has entered its off-season.

“We work on other projects, try to improve ourselves so that for next season, we’re better prepared,” said Patel.
