The mythical world of Percy Jackson is coming to life on Avon High School’s stage this fall.
The musical follows demigod, Percy Jackson on his quest to prevent a war between the gods. Along the way Percy, and his companions, Grover and Annabeth face all sorts of terrifying monsters from a demon math teacher to DJ Cerberus.
The Director, Dr. Steckbeck, shared that the musical had been in the works since January when they announced it with a scavenger hunt. Then they held auditions in late May, that’s when they found their leads, Eli Neal as Percy Jackson, Emery Clark as Annabeth Chase, and Zach Sigler as Grover Underwood. This is all leading up to the day where the show will be performed in the Avon auditorium.
“The show is Oct. 3-5. Friday and Saturday are at 7 p.m. and Sunday is at 3 p.m.” Steckbeck said.
“Percy Jackson the Lightning Thief”, while often lighthearted and silly, has a serious message. Steckbeck said that was one of the reasons she chose the musical, it had a theme that she believed was important to showcase.
“I think it’s very common for youth to feel like they don’t really know who they are, or they’re in the shadow of a family member, or they’re trying to figure themselves out. That’s just such a common theme amongst young people,” said Steckbeck.
She also invited anyone who is interested to come to the musical and consider joining theater or taking one of the many theater classes she offers.
“We can find a spot for anybody here. Even if you’re not cast in the musical, we have tons of tech things happening,” Steckbeck said. “Everybody is very nice, similar interests and backgrounds, and we’re all just having a good time.”
