Clothing has been a huge part of allowing humans to express themselves around the globe for generations.

Since 2018, the Fashion Club has been focused on inspiring students to express themselves through fashion. For the past three years, Spanish teacher and sponsor Violet Moody, has been helping lead the club.

“My first year of teaching here, a student came up to me and asked me to sponsor it, I agreed, and it just went from there,” Moody said. “I think it was because of the outfit I had on that day.”

Moody said there are also board members who help lead and plan the meetings and activities of the club.

“There are several board members, so they all have their own goals for the club,” Moody said. “They typically have it planned out, where everything is clear and easy for everybody to understand the objectives of the meetings.”

Last year, the Fashion Club made their own mannequins and clothing for it from the materials they had at home.

“They were showing that you don’t have to go buy stuff to be fashionable,” Moody said.

The Fashion Club is currently working on collages at their upcoming meeting, and the next meeting information will be posted on Schoology.

“Our next meeting is Sept. 17 for the Carnival,” Moody said. “But we always make sure to post information about our meetings on Schoology and all that good stuff.”

Later this year, the Fashion Club is planning on going on a field trip to Goodwill to make outfits later in the year.

“They’re going to do a thrift store field trip and of course Trunk-or-Treat and the Riley Carnival,” Moody said. “Any one is welcome to help us set up and play games in the Carnival.”

Moody wants all students to have a chance to express themselves for who they truly are without the fear of being judged.

“Fashion Club gives everyone a chance to participate,” Moody said. “It gives everyone an opportunity to express themselves around other students without feeling judged or made fun of in anyway.”

Moody said she also wants all kids to gain confidence from joining Fashion Club.

“It’s not all about looking good for other people,” Moody said. “It’s about expressing who you are and not feeling bad about it.”
