Math is red. No, it’s not blue, purple, or black. Red is widely recognized as the color of panic. Panic, just like what you feel when Mrs. Leahy calls on you for example four on the notes and you don’t know the answer. Panic, just like how you feel when you fail the unit three test with the number 50 written at the top of your paper in bold, RED ink. Trust me, math doesn’t just wear red, it owns it.
Now before the hate comes flooding in, I’m just saying the truth. Math is red, science is green, English is blue, and social studies is orange.
Some may be like “dude, Corinne, why are you like this?” Maybe it’s just how I’ve always organized my folders. Maybe it’s because I’m just right. According to colorpsychology.org, “Red can increase anxiety, overstimulation, and feelings of stress.” I don’t know about you, but math can be really stressful for me. Even science agrees.
Speaking of science, it’s green. Science is life. Life is nature. Nature is green. See where I’m going here? If you don’t believe me, believe the 75.9% of students and faculty at Avon High School who also agree, according to a survey I conducted in my Journalism class last year.
English is blue. It always has been. Ever since the first time I went back-to-school shopping. I was what, six years old? My mom asked me what color I wanted for my reading folder. I said blue. So maybe that’s just me, but I think my six-year-old self was really on to something when she made that decision.
Last but not least, any sort of social studies. They’re definitely orange. Bright, out of place. Maybe it reminds me of the random group projects that we have three times a semester. Or I don’t know, maybe how I imagine old historical documents, like that worn, dusty, orange-ish, you know?
I know some of you are all like “who does this girl think she is?” and let me tell y’all. I hear you. I see you. And I hate to break it to you, but math is not blue. It never was and it never will be. Science is not purple, just like social studies isn’t pink. And to the 17.5% of you that think English is red… are you okay?
So there you have it. The only right interpretation of colors to school subjects. If you’re still out here thinking math is blue… I’m praying for you. Seriously, get it together. The next time you’re back-to-school shopping, just remember; red is for math. Math needs red. End of story. Now go forth and correct your colors, trust me, your future self will thank you.
