On Aug. 27, the girl’s golf team placed second against Ben Davis and North Central at Prestwick Country Club in Avon. The team beat Ben Davis but lost to North Central by five strokes.
Amelia Collier shot the lowest round for Avon at 46. Her score was followed closely by junior Morgan Wittenauer and junior Ella Fanning, who both shot 47.
Wittenauer, a varsity member who’s been on the golf team for three years, said she is proud of their performance at the match.
“I know some people weren’t happy with their scores, but as a team, we’ve been improving a ton every match,” Wittenauer said.
This was the team’s last match before the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet, where they will face seven competitors.
“I think we have some good momentum heading into conference next week,” Wittenauer said.
On Sept. 3, the team will travel to Bear Slide Golf Club in Noblesville for the HCC meet.
“We are in an extremely tough conference but if all of us go into the match with a positive mentality and are confident in our game, we will do well,” Fanning said.
