Friday was the sectional semi-final game as Avon welcomed the neighboring Plainfield Quakers to the “Orena” for a chance to play for the sectional championship vs Brownsburg on Saturday night. It was win or go home for both teams and our Orioles were hoping to pull off an upset against the 21-2 Quakers.
After one quarter of play, Plainfield was up 17-11. Even though Avon kept it close down the stretch, the Quakers did not look back. By the time halftime hit, Plainfield had a 33-16 lead. The Orioles had to go to the locker room and make some adjustments if they wanted to stay in this game, but they just didn’t have enough to come back in the second half.
Plainfield junior Cael Vanderbush was all over Avon‘s defense throughout the entire game. He ended with 29 points and six rebounds. Plainfield would take this one, 58-39, ending the Orioles season. Avon ends with a record of 6-14.
Another basketball season wraps up for our Orioles. Obviously a season full of struggles, but the boys look to come back stronger next year. With the returning players, like Chrishon McCray, Nick Walker, and many others, our boys basketball squad will look to take the sectional title next season and possibly even go further. Best of luck to the seniors in the future and thank you for everything you have done for Avon.
