The Avon Marching Black and Gold will be marching in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, officials announced on Monday.
Macy’s Parade creative director Wesley Whatley said that the band wants to provide an opportunity for the community to be recognized, as well as those that have been involved in the Avon band program.
“America will be eating their turkey next year, and they’ll be talking about Avon High School, that’s the goal,” Whatley said. “I want your mom to tune in and to remember you guys because that’s how significant you are.”
The band was awarded $10,000 from Macy’s to kickstart their fundraising efforts for the event a year and a half from now.
This appearance will mark the band’s first appearance. Bands from the state of Indiana that have performed in the prestigious parade in the past include Fishers, Carmel, and Brownsburg. The AMBG have previously performed at the 500 Festival Parade in 2018 and the Rose Bowl Parade in 2012.
