Avon High Schoolâs annual Activity Fair has been said to be a success, with students reporting increased engagement in Avonâs extracurriculars.
Held Wednesday, Aug.14, the Activity Fair provided students with an opportunity to explore new interests. The event, aimed at connecting students to various clubs, showcased the schoolâs diverse community. According to a survey of AHS students, 83.1% of students were interested in joining at least one club.
âI think itâs a really cool idea to see all the available clubs,â sophomore Katelyn Kasten said.
Although the event was primarily advertised to freshmen, upperclassmen were also attracted. Their participation broadened the eventâs appeal.
âEven as a junior, I’m joining a club that I wouldn’t have thought of joining when I was a freshman,â said junior Xavier Sheriff.
Clubs have been using new strategies to catch studentsâ attention due to a new policy prohibiting candy for non-cultural clubs. Senior Stephen Onochie, a robotics board member, said AHSâ policy seemed to be useful.
âI was surprised how effective the no-candy policy was, as the freshmen showed more genuine interest in clubs,â Onochie said.
Other after-school activities donât undermine the Activity Fairâs importance. Despite freshman Lily Hwangâs other extracurriculars, she said the fair was still meaningful to her.
âPersonally, I am already doing many things outside of school, so I don’t have any time for the clubs, but the activity fair was very informative and helped in getting to know the culture of Avon better,â said Hwang.
By providing a platform for students to explore their passions, the fair has set a positive precedent for future events. Said to be successful by many, this Activity Fair was one for the books.
âThe activity fair was very successful this year. There were multiple clubs I talked to that had over a hundred people signed up. I enjoyed seeing all the hard work everyone put in for their booths, and even as a senior I was able to find more clubs I was interested in,â said senior Alayna Siemon, who will be joining Horticulture Club.
