This school year a new class, Dramatic Literature, has been introduced, aiming to take apart and dissect the works of different plays.
“The class focuses on trying to dive more into the literature side of theater as opposed to the acting side,” said Sean McCambridge, teacher of the new class.
“When you’re acting a play, your whole focus is on acting and developing a character, mostly. So, if you’re in drama class, that’s what your focus is going to be on,” said McCambridge. “Whereas when you’re looking at things from a literature standpoint, you’re looking at it from like, an analysis standpoint.”
The class meets seventh period in room number D202 and is a one semester course offered to juniors and seniors. McCambridge recommends students who enjoy drama to consider joining.
“If you like theater, if you’re into the arts at all, this is a class for you,” said McCambridge.
The class is currently watching the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream and writing an analytical paper over the play. Senior Jordyn Henderson, a student in the new class, said that there is a lot of group collaboration when talking about and looking over the plays they are doing.
“It’s really based around group collaboration,” Henderson said. “The class is small too, with only 12 students in it, so it’s much easier to come together as a group.”
The class will continue to look at other plays throughout the remainder of the semester too.
“For the rest of this semester, we’re supposed to look at a handful of different shows as well,” Henderson said. “And I’m really looking forward to it!”
