What is FCA?
FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, but we call it Fellowship of Christian Anybodies because anybody can go. It’s just a group of kids that meet up on Friday mornings to start their day in faith.
Have you gone to church your entire life?
Yes, I have gone to church for as long as I can remember.
How long have you been a member of FCA?
I joined halfway through my freshman year, and I’m now a junior, so that is two years. I got invited by some friends, and I’ve always been a Christian, so I wanted to join.
What’s your favorite thing about FCA?
I love that it’s a way to just start off your day with God. Especially in school, it can be stressful to keep God as your main focus.
How did you get on the leadership board?
Last year I really started showing up. My freshman year I just attended and that’s all I did. But last year, I really wanted to start helping. I would come early so I could hold the door for members in the mornings, and I would help them set up games and help them pass out stuff. Later on, they asked if I wanted to be a leader.
What are some of your jobs as a leader?
I’m specifically in charge of the games we play before we start. But I also just throw out ideas and collaborate with them on ways to help the club be better and help influence people more. I make sure that we’re making an influence rather than having authority.
Why would you consider yourself a good leader?
I would consider myself a good leader because I’m very passionate about what I do. I care more about the impact I make, rather than being able to say that I’m a leader. I care more about actually building a relationship with the students that come here and having a lasting impact. I think people are quicker to follow somebody with a heart rather than somebody with a title. That’s what I strive to do, and I think that is what makes somebody a good leader.
What do you and the other leaders do to work together?
We make sure to listen to other people’s wants and desires for the club. For example, last year we discussed something to change fun Fridays to just make it more centered around faith, because fun Fridays are sometimes people’s first week. We just make sure to listen to each other’s wants and needs.
What other teams or clubs are you part of?
I’m in FCA, I film for football, and I’m also in a choir. My favorite class is choir; I love to sing.
What do you do in your free time?
I like reading and spending time outside. I also help out a lot at my church, even outside of Sundays.
Do you have any other talents?
I love singing and I am part of the worship team for my church and youth group.
