Aesop once said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
This sentiment rings true for many students who attend Avon High School. One student in particular has been recognized for her constant and consistent acts of kindness: Junior Addison Kasprzyk. Her positive attitude and thoughtful gestures have earned her the admiration of those around her.
Although many have praised Kasprzyk for her kindness, she was surprised by the recognition.
“I was extremely surprised when I recognized and I thought it was a very sweet gesture,” Kasprzyk said.
Despite her recent appraisals from peers, Kasprzyk remains humble and determined to continue her acts of kindness. She said that her focus is to better herself.
“I believe that I am a work in progress. I’m trying to be the best version of myself that I can be, and I try to appreciate every little thing that has shaped me into who I am today,” Kasprzyk said.
Unfortunately, most of us are shaped by past events that have bruised our self-esteem. The intolerance for bullying, both online and in-person, is strongly emphasized at AHS. Kasprzyk said that becoming a target for bullies is something that no one should have to endure.
“Yes, I have been bullied a couple times in the past, and I would never wish it on anyone because it can really affect someone negatively. That’s why I try to be nice to everyone because you don’t know what they’re dealing with,” Kasprzyk said.
The pressures of popularity and conforming may help us decide who we don’t want to be, but the loving actions and reassuring words of friends and family aid us in the search for who we do want to be. Kasprzyk said her parents have had the greatest effect on her upbringing.
“I feel family definitely shapes how you view the world. My parents have raised my brother and I to always try to see the bigger picture and to be nice to people even if they’re not in return,” Kasprzyk said.
As we navigate our way through youth and explore new things, we often develop morals, and we learn what to place value in. Our personal principles help steady the wheel when we’re forced to face rough terrain. Kasprzyk said her personal mottos have helped her become the person she is today.
“Everyone has their own battles they’re facing that you don’t know anything about. I believe that you never truly know what someone is going through and should always try to lift them up in any way you can!” Kasprzyk said.
