What grade are you in?
I’m a senior.
What is your course in Area 31 for?
I am in Area 31 for cybersecurity, and I am an ambassador.
What do you do exactly in Area 31?
Because I’m in cyber security it’s pretty repetitive each week but on Mondays we usually go over what we’re doing for the week and get lectures and the rest of the time we learn about what we’re doing, working on labs, and do group projects.
What made you get into cybersecurity and tech?
I chose cyber security because throughout my life, I’ve grown up around technology, and my parents are involved in I.T. for the state.
What are some major accomplishments you have made in your course?
I have gotten my CompTIA A+ certificate.
Can you explain what that means exactly?
A CompTIA A+ certificate is basically a certificate that shows you understand the basic fundamentals of networking and how technology actually works.
Okay thank you, do you plan on continuing with cybersecurity after high school, if so, how?
Yes, I do plan on continuing with this after high school. Recently I have been trying to get recommendations from my Area 31 teacher so I can get into internships.
So, you’re basically going Grey’s Anatomy cybersecurity style?
I guess you could say it like that.
So since you came back to this course, what motivated you to keep going?
First, I know I’m going to get good money out of it. And second I want to work at a job that I’m comfortable with doing and I know I will be comfortable in my skills with tech. I just don’t want to hate my job in the future honestly.
Okay, so you said you want to do cyber security in the future — do you currently have a job?
Yes, I am a greeter and utility worker at Smokey Bones.
Outside of work and Area 31, are you involved in any clubs or extra-curricular activities with the school?
No, I am not.
If not an extra-curricular or clubs, what do you do, do you have any talents or anything?
Yes, I can play the guitar, and I really enjoy content creation and editing.
