What makes you president of Psychology Club?
It was because I kind of made the club and put everything together, and I just kind of named myself president. There wasn’t a lot that went into it.
How old is this club?
This is its second year at Avon, so we’re still figuring a lot of stuff out. A lot of the planning was during sophomore year and getting signatures and things like that, but it wasn’t officially a club until early junior year.
How often does Psychology Club meet?
We meet every other Monday in Miss Thomas’s room, D22.
Would you rather have two left feet, or two right feet?
Two right feet.
Why?
I like right. The right is better. No, that sounds horrible. Can I change my answer? Two left feet. Two left feet…
What’s your favorite outfit?
It was pants like these, but not these ones. Black denim, and they have these star cutouts all over them. And I paired that with a black shirt with a tarot card on it. And I used these mesh sleeves that I have that have stars and all this stuff on them, and then a black bandana.
What are your plans with the club this year?
I’m hoping to kind of widen our circle and widen our impact a little bit or enlarge our impact throughout the school and have a bit more impact in the events coming up. We’re doing a dine to donate at Culvers, Sept. 15. It’s during Suicide Prevention Month, and all the proceeds will be going to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
What do you talk about in the average Psychology Club meeting?
The club is meant as a form of help for people to understand psychology a little more. We have a different topic each week. Sometimes this includes clinical psychology; sometimes it can include career paths in psychology. It’s just about helping people kind of find their interest with psychology and what they might want to do with it, and that kind of thing.
What the most interesting thing you’ve talked about in Psychology Club?
I would say some of our true crime meetings, those tend to be the most popular and for good reason. I especially find it really interesting because we’re able to somewhat humanize people who are completely dehumanized for actions they’ve committed. And, I mean, people are like, “Oh yeah, they’re monsters burning in hell, whatever, yada yada yada.” But they don’t even start to try and realize that these people were horribly abused, horribly treated, and sometimes injured and then go do these things because of the mental drawbacks that hurt them socially and humanely.
What would you describe your haircut as?
Shaggy.
Who’s your biggest inspiration?
A lot of them tend to actually be drag queens like Trixie Mattel, Jinkx Monsoon. Especially Jinkx Monsoon, socially and politically, just because she a very constant message of constantly speaking up for people. She’s also just a really weird, crazy person, and I love that because I’m also a really weird crazy person and I think she’s such an inspiration to see and kind of delve into her messages about life.
Any shoutouts?
My best friends Lila and Leah and also, Amelia Jenkins, she’s one of the officers for Psychology Club. And Neriah Boyer, she’s the vice president. And shout out Miss Thomas, who’s our sponsor.
