What is your name and what grade are you in?
My name is Kayleigh Sabo-Puckett, people call me Kat, and I’m a senior.
What first got you interested in show choir?
I did choir in middle school, and my director told me he really wanted me to go out for show choir at the high school. At first I said “absolutely not,” but I mean here we are now.
How is attraction doing so far this year?
Attraction is doing insanely amazing, especially considering how early in the year it is. Everyone is so locked in, they’re absolutely killing it. I’m so excited to see where this year takes us.
Who is a peer that has inspired or encouraged you, and why?
Definitely my co-president Andrea Arnal Guzman. I think that she has been very inspiring because no matter what, she walks into class and rehearsals every day just radiating smiles and energy. I am so proud and impressed and I am so glad to be working with her this year.
Have you always been naturally good at singing and dancing?
Heck to the nah. I have never been a great dancer, still to this day. Singing-wise, I always love to sing, so I was never really a bad singer, but I was never technically good. Like good voice, bad technique. I improved a lot through being in class and practicing. Dancing-wise, still learning, still figuring it out, but, you know, you pick it up over time.
What are your plans for after high school?
I want to go into real estate, which is really funny that I’m in so many choir classes just to go into real estate. I actually learned a lot of life skills through choir, like how to communicate with people. I learned how to speak in front of big groups, taking attendance. That’s helpful. I learned how to present myself in a certain way that people trust. And I used to have really bad speaking skills. And now I’m pretty good at yapping to whoever wants me to yap.
What is the most challenging part of being in attraction and what motivates you to keep going?
I think the hardest part, for me, being in Attraction, was my freshman year meeting new people. I mean, it’s a big group of girls. Girls are gonna fight. We’re high school girls, you know? So, it’s hard to separate outside from inside sometimes. But you make your bestest friends there, and you make so many memories, and it’s definitely worth the bumps in the road.
What is your favorite Attraction memory?
I’d probably say getting into attraction, my freshman year, which sounds kind of silly, but if I’m really thinking about it… I just remember, I auditioned in a Taco Bell T-shirt with bright blue hair and somebody was like “Oh, she’s not going to let you in because you’re not dressed professionally,” And I really wanted to prove them wrong. And so it felt really good to get in after being told I couldn’t get in because of my hair.
What things did you do to work for and eventually lead up to getting the role of president?
I was the secretary last year. I actually ran for president, my sophomore year, and I didn’t get it. And part of me was like, okay, the world’s ending. I give up. But then the other part of me was like, I really want to do this, so I’m gonna keep trying. So I made sure the next year that I focused on talking to all the new people and making as many friends as I could. So I made sure to make lots of friends and know everybody personally on a personal level. And I think that’s really what helped me out with winning is getting to know all the people I knew.
What other clubs or activities are you part of and what responsibilities do you have to do with that?
Choir, choir, choir. I’m in Chambers, which is our singing choir advanced, and then I’m in the mixed show choir accents. Then I’m also in Attraction, obviously. I don’t really have time for clubs with how many choirs I’m in, but I do think doing multiples is very, very hard with all the rehearsals and practices.
Team Edward or team Jacob?
Definitely Team Jacob. I don’t know if it’s because he had long hair and looked like a girl, or what, but I just feel like Jacob gives off like, roar, wolf, and Edward is like, I’m pale and I want to bite you. Definitely Jacob.
