Everyone has been late to practice, the bus, or even class at some point in their lives, especially at school. With the ALC and new halls added to the school, transit to and from classes should be much harder, but is it?
After years of student requests, the 2025 school year is committing to 7-minute passing periods. As a result, students now have the time to make it to class, even if they have to walk across the entire school.
“Overall, what we have noticed,” said Principal Matt Shockley, “is that it is helpful for students to have this increased one-minute passing period.”
Many have described these new changes as very beneficial. Even as small as a minute may seem, it can significantly decrease tardiness.
Junior Niki Meissner said, “From second to third period, I come from the back of upper B hall to the back of lower L hall and think that the addition of one minute to passing periods makes it so that I don’t have to stress about tardies.”
Clearly, students are supportive of the new change. No longer are the days of weaving through traffic in tight halls and racing just to beat the bell; now, adequate time is given to make sure that students don’t get tardy.
“I feel like seven minutes, it was the right decision to make to help students get to class on time. I think it is working,” said Shockley.
