Avon has a variety of performing arts programs, but one of them certainly dances through life. Avon’s all girls show choir ‘Avon Attraction’ has certainly made a name for themselves after their last competition season with their theme ‘The Pink Ladies’. This year, Attraction seems to be taking it to the next level- on and off the stage.

“I feel like the sense of community that the group creates over the course of the year is something that’s really special for this group,” said Mr. Stainbrook, who is now in his fourth year of teaching the group. “We achieve that just by, you know, having an environment where everybody gets to know each other, supports each other and respects each other.” While watching an Attraction performance, or even a rehearsal, you can see how truly supportive the group as a whole is.

While Attraction strives to perform at the highest level, the community that builds that behind the scenes really pulls the performance together. As Andrea Guzman, who is in her second year of co-presidency for the group, states, “we work so hard to perform for an audience and to perform for so many people in less than 20 minutes.” Their hard work and sense of community truly are shown on stage when everyone is having fun with each performance.

Attraction does their best to be the best, but not only is it in medals, it’s also in how many friendships are made. The group wouldn’t be where they are without the whimsicalness that they have.

“If I were to look at where the group is 4 weeks into the school year, I would say a good word to describe them would be enthusiastic because there’s lots of energy in the group and optimism to be great at what we’re doing,” Stainbrook describes. Not only does this group perform well, but they’re happy to be doing it all together. Even when it’s just in class or a rehearsal, the enthusiasm in the air just to be learning is truly great.

“One word that I would use to describe Attraction would be diversity because our group has so many cultures and so many important people with different paths, different stories, different mindsets and we all connect to become one in Attraction,” Guzman says. What makes Attraction unique and successful is their ability to take each other’s life experiences and cultures to come together and add a unique experience to their group and performances.

Diversity is just one factor in what makes Attraction so unique. The amount of diversity and enthusiasm is what truly makes this group one of a kind.

“To me, it’s a group where students can come in and be challenged and to strive for a high level of excellence in an environment where they know they’re going to be supported, not going to be judged and can grow. Where also they can have confidence and feel great about their performance and their achievements throughout the course of the year,” Stainbrook states. “I think that attraction as a group provides that environment where students can do that now, out in the public eye outside of Avon high school where we’re doing competitions and all of that shows how Avon is.” Attraction does its best to go above and beyond and knowing they’re going to be supported makes it all the better.

“I want people to know that Attraction is a safe space and that we really have fun because yes, it’s only girls, but our girls make Attraction more than unique because of how much work and love we put in every day,” Guzman explains. The group as a whole is so loving and respectful, and that’s what really makes Attraction who they are.

Attraction shows off Avon in all its best possible ways, whether it is community, performance, or diversity. Attraction strives for the highest and achieves it! Their first performance of the year is Fall Fling.
