Service In Action: NHS Council Sets New Goals for Year Ahead

Student leaders reach to give back to the community that shaped the opportunities they see ahead.

Seniors Janani Devendran and Mili Patel take on leadership roles this for their class, serving as vice president and attendance secretary. The imitative aim is to alleviate the financial burden on graduating students who struggle to pay off student debt.

“Debt just piles onto our students, so one of our biggest goals for the class of 2027 is to help repay student debt by raising money for the goal that we know will be important for so many of our fellow peers,” Deverndran said.

The team chose this goal to differ from the previous year’s focus on raising money for sheltering wings. They plan to achieve this through community connection, fundraising, and services.

” The ways we thought we would help Avon students a lot is by helping Avon students with lunch debt because that is something many students struggle to keep in check the last few years” Patel Said.

As leaders this year, Devendran and Patel want to emphasize the importance of community involvement through the group as well as maintain the efforts for events and fundraising activates even with members who have completed their required service hours.

“I want it to pan out really well with the development of various fundraising opportunities, and we already have so many volunteering opportunities for the people in our club, we would just like to keep everyone participating not just for their hours but for the contribute to their community,” Deverndran said.
