From Bricks to Blocks: AHS Gets a Minecraft Makeover

Every day students walk through Avon High School. They pass by the same grey walls and windowless hallways without a second thought, letting their surroundings go unobserved. But one student chose a more creative path.

Carter Feckete, a senior, made his school days a little more interesting. Feckete, an avid Minecraft player, decided to build the high school in Minecraft. He had built real life buildings in Minecraft before, but he had never made one as large as this. The project took him almost a year from his start in fall 2025 to a few weeks ago in fall 2026.

Feckete explained that he was inspired by one of his friends. He isn’t new to modeling his creations off real life, and his friend saw an opportunity for another project.

“It was already on my radar but when sitting in the auditorium, one of my friends told me to recreate the area when I showed them one of my other builds,” said Feckete.

The auditorium is one of Feckete’s favorite sections of the building. He spends a lot of time there due to his activity in theater, so he was able to convey a lot of detail. However, it is only one of the many detailed rooms.

“My favorite areas are places with the most accuracy like the gym and auditorium,” said Feckete.  “I would estimate that 90% of rooms have full interior”

Feckete ran into a few issues during the project. He struggled to fully match proportions and ensure all the details were properly aligned. His goal was to create the most accurate version possible.

“L- Hall: the dimensions were difficult to line up and information was much harder to come by,” said Feckete. “One block is a meter, so anything big enough that I could reasonably recreate in game was included. It even includes functional details like working curtains and music in the auditorium”

Feckete couldn’t recreate all the details just from memory; he utilized many outside resources for the project.

“I looked at floor plans, internet posts, construction photos, and just memory I gained during the day walking around.”

Feckete doesn’t know exactly how many hours he spent building, but he can estimate based on his most recent usage report.

“This is way worse than I thought, but 1457 hours and 23 minutes. This is not just for the school, by the way. This is all time,” said Feckete.

Even with the extensive work already put into the project, Feckete still has additions to make. He wants to expand the outdoor sections of the school, but he doesn’t want to build any other models for a while.

“I am currently planning to add the sports fields and stadium in the south end of the property, but for right now I am tired of this, maybe years down the road,” said Feckete.

Feckete doesn’t want his work to go unshared. In fact, he is making it available to the public soon.

“It is soon to be available for download for Minecraft Bedrock Edition.”
