Sorry boys, you’re going to have to sit this one out. This is Avon High School’s very own place for girls; G.I.R.L.S. Club.
Club President, freshman Kallie Garrett, said that the brand new G.I.R.L.S. Club presents itself as an open forum for all girls of Avon High School to talk about the issues and challenges most present in their lives.
“It’s a club for girls to come together and talk about anything from body image to how to succeed in life as a woman through careers or education or anything like that,” Garrett said.
While different activities and meetings will be planned, one of G.I.R.L.S. Club’s goals is to help the members find out who they really are said Garrett.
“We’ll have speakers sometimes,” Garrett said. “[In] the beginning we’ll just start to get to know each other and all that.”
Garrett said that G.I.R.L.S. Club transformed from an idea to action when she club sponsor, Miss Wede, asked her to take on the role as club president.
“She’s my favorite teacher,” Garrett said. “She’s such as easygoing and easy to talk to kind of person.”
Garrett said she is excited by the opportunity to meet new friends and try new things through the club and she hopes members can implement aspects of the club into their everyday lives.
“It’s for girls to be confident and comfortable with themselves,” Garrett said. “I want them to take away self – confidence and self – image, build up their worth, know that they are worth something, and that they are able to succeed in life with a good, positive attitude about themselves and others.”
The callout meeting for G.I.R.L.S. Club will take place on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 in Miss Wede’s room, D215, after school from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
