The girls’ basketball team defeated Pike at home on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in their second game of the season. So far, the team has two consecutive victories after defeating Mooresville on Nov. 8.
At half-time against Pike, Avon led by a score of 37-22. By the time third quarter was finished, Avon was 20 points ahead, and when the final buzzer sounded, the Orioles had extended their lead to 59-46.
Junior Alex Richard said that winning the first two games together as a team has helped to set up what will hopefully be a winning season.
“[The win] just helps you come together as a team,” Richard said. “[It] shows you that, ‘hey, we can do this.'”
Senior Haley Nichols said that a team effort is the most important in going for the win.
“Everybody has to be on the same page,” Nichols said.
Nichols said that the team goal for the upcoming season is to defeat Brownsburg for the first time in her high school career.
“We’re going to get it this year,” Nichols said.
The team will face the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots this Friday, Nov. 15, in an away game at 7:30 p.m.
