AP English Language & Composition instructor Mrs. Heather Meunier has been selected as a recipient of the 2020 Armstrong Teacher Educator Award, a prize given by the IU School of Education.
This coming April, Mrs. Meunier will be honored on the IU-Bloomington campus. She is joined by prior Avon recipients Mr. Tony Record, Mr. Dean Westman, and Ms. Ranielle Moore.
According to its official website, the award recognizes excellence in education and furthermore provides recipients with the opportunity to speak out on some of the most pressing issues in education.
“Winning the Armstrong means so much to me because the program is focused on celebrating teaching and inspiring pre-service educators,” Mrs. Meunier said.
She added: “The current educational climate is not very positive right now, and that deeply saddens me because encouraging students and guiding them to their full potential can be a really empowering career choice. Programs like the Armstrong Educator Award are designed to inspire future teachers, and I’m happy to be a part of that. ”
This fall, Mrs. Meunier will spend time on the IU-Bloomington campus mentoring future educators on a panel of fellow award recipients.
