The Esports Club at Avon plays a lot of games, such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Recently, the gaming club has hopped on last decade’s biggest bandwagon: Minecraft, where they’ve recently created their own server.
The server was created by the Esports Club officers. Junior Vice President Christian O’Neil said he wanted to create the Minecraft server to foster a sense of community within the club.
“We thought it would be a cool and fun idea to have the community of Avon all joined up in a big Minecraft server,” O’Neil said.
Another club officer, sophomore Haven Hamelin, has wanted to create a community server since he was a kid.
“I’m glad I’ve finally found the community to do it with,” said Hamelin.
O’Neil said they have plans to run this server for a few years and keep advertising it.
“We’re planning to run this server for as long as we have a player base,” O’Neil said.
Hamelin is a head-operator of the server, and plans to add creative mode in addition to consistent updates.
“We’re definitely going to the Nether Update as soon as it comes out, so that’s exciting,” said Hamelin. “We’re looking to enable creative mode on a separate world eventually.”
Esports Club is welcoming other people to join their server for a small fee.
“We’re always looking for more members. If someone is interested in joining, you need to have been to at least one eSports Club meeting,” Hamelin said. “There is a dollar monthly admission, [since] it costs to keep it running.”
