Week two of Friday Night Lights had our Avon Orioles traveling to Wayne Township to take on the Ben Davis Giants. This game brought us a lot of offense and exciting plays throughout the entire contest. Both the Orioles and Giants were searching for their first win, but Ben Davis would be the team to get it.

Two minutes into the game, Ben Davis had the lead, 15-7, after two touchdowns with a successful extra point and the other with a successful two-point conversion. Later in the first quarter, the Giants would find the endzone after an 83-yard touchdown pass. After a failed two-point attempt, they held a 21-7 lead. The Orioles responded back right away with two long passing touchdowns from sophomore quarterback Mason Reynolds to senior running back Chrishon McCray. Both scores also brought two successful extra points by senior kicker Carson Holmer.

Soon after that, Ben Davis got the ball back and looked to score quickly. However, junior cornerback Layton Moore had something to say about it as he snagged a pass for an interception to end the first. The Giants defense responded immediately, picking off Reynolds and running it back for a pick six.

This was just the start for Ben Davis in the second quarter where they rattled off 28 straight points in the second quarter to go to the locker room with a 49-21 lead. The third quarter brought both teams trading touchdowns, making the score 56-28 after three quarters of play. Avon won the fourth quarter, as their defense held Ben Davis to only a field goal; and soon after this, Reynolds would find McCray again for six. Holmer tacked on the extra point. Time ran out for Avon though, as Ben Davis walked away with the win 59-35.

Tough one to swallow for the Orioles but the positives are there. McCray ended with eight receptions, four touchdowns, and 317 receiving yards. Moore led the defense with six tackles and one interception as mentioned earlier. Success is on the horizon for the Orioles. They look for their first win this Friday, September 3rd as they travel to Fishers to take on the undefeated Hamilton Southeastern Royals.
