The Homecoming Carnival is a staple here at Avon High School. The Homecoming Carnival, also known as Carnival for a Cause, is the school’s way to hold a carnival that includes games, a bouncy house, raffles with prizes, food trucks, and most notably; stands of the school clubs with activities to entertain the guests. Some of the activities correspond with what the club is all about or are just fun things for the visitors to do. This event is run by the AHS Student Government and is being sponsored by the Riley Dance Marathon. All the proceeds of this event go to the Riley Hospital for Children so when one pays for it, they support the hospital.

Jade Price, a junior here at Avon High School who is also on the Riley Dance Board as the Corporate Sponsors Chair, hopes for students and the Avon community to come to this event so that they can support children in need and have fun before the homecoming game, which occurs right after the carnival. Anyone is welcome to the homecoming game because of this event; this means that not only students and family members that are able to get in like years past.

“Carnival for a Cause is a fully community event. Any Avon resident, whether that be your 3-month-old sister or your grandma, can come to Carnival for a Cause. It’s fully open to everybody. We’re not just marketing to the high school, but rather to everyone. So, it’s for any and everybody” Price clarifies, as well as stating that this event is for “[students] to have fun time before the homecoming game.”

Another junior working on this event with the school’s Student Government is Iris Tang. Her role is Director of Community Activities. Some of the clubs in the event will be doing a stand while others will be doing raffle baskets as a way of participating. This is so that if the clubs don’t have the members to do a big stand or don’t feel it’s necessary, they can do something small to still be participating in this event.

“I know the Student Government, Interact, Deca, and Take a Hike are doing [something in the event].” Tang replies without being specific on what the clubs are doing while also adding, “I think most clubs are going to do it.”
