On Nov. 23, Avon High School’s wrestling team competed in a tournament against Brownsburg, Warren Central, Westfield, and Fishers. The Brownsburg JV Invite aims to help those who are new to the sport gain experience in wrestling.

The wrestlers faced 156 matches and won 106 of those. Before walking into the tournament, sophomore Caden Brown said he had goals for himself and the team that he wished to see accomplished.

“The goal for me was to win every match that I had. My goal for the team was to go have a good time and get better,” Brown said.

However, to make those goals come to life, Brown said that there are mental and physical preparations he must take care of first.

“I always try to think of different move combinations that I could run. I don’t listen to music like most people do because it distracts me. [I] also jump around and stretch so I stay warm and prepared,” Brown said. “You don’t [want to] go out into a match after sitting down because you won’t be as fast as you could be.”

Overall, Brown said that the wrestlers preformed the best they could against the other teams and that he was satisfied with their performance.

“I’d say we did pretty good for the most part,” Brown said. “There was just a couple of small mistakes that could have costed us a match which we need to fix.”
