With 30 seconds left on the clock, senior Sam Miller scores the winning point against Mooresville high school in
overtime.
The Avon girls’ soccer team fought against Mooresville at home with a final score of 1-0 Thursday night, October 8. The Orioles finished the game with 13 shots and 14 corner kicks while Mooresville finished with one shot and one corner kick.
Juniors Abby Heck and Kendall Ellis along with seniors Miller and Lauren Finch lead the Orioles into winning
against Mooresville and advancing to Sectionals. In the first half of the game, the Orioles lead with seven shots and eight corner kicks while Mooresville had one corner kick and zero shots. Miller took a short break after a collision from one of Mooresville’s players. She recovered shortly and came back into the game before the first half ended.
The second half ended with 12 shots and 11 corner kicks from Avon and one corner kick and one shot from Mooresville. The score remained 0-0 leading to overtime. The overtime consisted of two seven-minute sessions. If the score remained a tie, then the teams would go into penalty kicks. The first overtime session ended with Miller scoring for the Orioles making the score 1-0. The score remained constant at 1-0 at the end of the second session which concluded the game with the Orioles winning.
