Q&A with Creative Writing Club President Alaina Moon

By Sofie Westdyke

What is your name?

Hello, my name is Alaina Moon.

What grade are you in?

I am a junior.

Why did you join the Creative Writing Club?

I joined because I wanted to be a writer for the longest time, and I still want to continue working on that craft, and I would just like to write more often.

What is your favorite thing about the club?

My favorite thing about the club is how laid back it is. We don’t usually do anything super serious; we’re just about having fun and doing random side quests along the way.

How many years have you been in creative writing?

I’ve been doing it for two years. This is my third year.

What are some hobbies and interests needed to join?

I would say, well, you have to like to write at least a little bit. I would say reading sometimes helps, but even just having a big imagination and just. Really loving coming up with a new and creative ideas.

How would you describe a typical meeting?

I would say we kind of file into the classroom, relax for a little bit, and eventually introduce your prompt or an activity and get to work. Just writing, doing research if we need to, but doing random activities in between.

How can it inspire people inside the club?

Working together and being able to share your writing in a safe environment where all are welcome is very good for yourself. Esteem. As someone who is very self-conscious about how she writes, being welcomed into an environment by the past president and vice president was really great for myself. Confidence.

Do you do any kind of writing outside of school?

I would like to, but I usually don’t and I’m very busy. But I have gotten into writing reverse poems a lot lately.

Are you involved in any sports or performing arts?

Not anymore, but I still love watching the marching band perform.

What is your favorite subject and why?

My favorite subject would probably have to be Psychology because it’s a very fun and interesting class and dives deeper into things that I didn’t really ever think about.

Last question, what do you want to major in college?

You know honestly, it’s up in the air right now I’m thinking of going into psychology, but creative writing is definitely still an option and I’m looking into programs across the country.
