People of Avon: Todd Polites

By Isabelle Corn // Reporter

What’s something you’ve been really into lately that you could talk about for hours?

I’m a drummer and I came to Avon to drum, so that’s kind of just all I’ve been doing.

What’s a small thing that can instantly make a bad day better for you?

Honestly, just someone doing something nice for me. Like out of the blue if someone just, you know, comes up, asks me how I’m doing or like picks something up for me. That can make my day 10 times better, even for the small gesture.

What’s something that you’ve changed your mind about recently?

Drumming professionally. Like a month ago, I really wanted to do DCI really bad, and I wanted to pursue a career in drumming, and I kind of lost that in the past month. I realized that it’d be really hard to do, and that’s an amount of work that I would need to do, that I’d have to spend every minute of my day drumming to do that, and that’s not something I can do. I enjoy it, but I don’t enjoy it that much, so I kind of changed my mind about that.

What’s something you’re proud of that you don’t usually get to talk about?

I’ve only been here this past quarter from Speedway, for I’ve heard there seemed to be a better music program, in the first place. That was not easy, I gave up senior year completely to come here and completely move schools. The school’s bigger, so that was a difficulty too, especially with all the new classes and teachers. I also had to leave my friends at my old school, which was very hard. I’m proud of myself for that; it’s not easy to move schools, especially during senior year.
