As the 2026 Fall semester starts, so does the Avon boy’s tennis season. After a long off-season, the returning players of Avon High School can finally rejoin their teammates to dominate the courts. With the previous year’s lineup making it all the way to state, the athletes are hyped up and ready for another impressive season.

Colin Isom, a returning sophomore on the team, reports a positive experience his freshman season, sharing his thoughts on what makes tennis a unique sport.

“The team is bigger than most other sports,” Isom said. “And it’s a better community than most other sports have.”

With 50 plus players, the boy’s tennis team is the largest sports group at Avon. This abundance of players is overall seen as a benefit because of the extra boost in eligible matches.

So far this season, the team has had a positive streak, with the majority of the matches ending in a win for the players. For sophomore Dylan Maranan, the Noblesville match has been his favorite match so far.

“We were down 3-6, me and my partner Lincoln Cadle, and we came back and won the set and match” Maranan said. As happy as he was to win the match, Maranan notes that its not just the winning that motivates him to play. “I just love to get out there and play tennis.”

Many of the current team members didn’t join the team randomly- they were influenced by either friends or family to join. Maranan said that this was the case for him, too. “I got into tennis from my brother. Ive played for about 3 years now.”

When asked what his favorite part of the sport was, Maranan explained that the people and the competition was what made tennis special to him.

“I love hanging out with the team, it’s always fun, and you can’t beat the energy of a match. They are always really high in energy,” Maranan said.
